- Staff are with the children, and a childminder often works alone. Parents ringing about places or funded hours reach voicemail and try the next setting on their list.

- Fees, sessions, funded hours, meals, what to bring. If the website doesn’t answer them, they arrive by phone and email at the busiest times of day.

- Parents check Ofsted before they visit. A link from your website to your latest report, with the date of your last inspection, is better than leaving them to search for it.

Parents often start looking months before they need a place, sometimes before the baby is born. They ask friends, post in local parents’ groups and search “nursery near me” or “childminder” plus the town, then compare settings on distance, opening hours, fees, reviews and the latest Ofsted report. Since November 2025, settings inspected in England get an Ofsted report card with a grade for each area instead of a single-word judgement, while others still show their older report until their next inspection. Parents also want to know which government funded hours you offer and how they work at your setting. Few will decide without a show-round, so the step from reading your website to booking a visit matters.

What should a nursery website show?
Your age range, opening hours and sessions, fees and what they include, which government funded hours you offer, how your waiting list works, a link to your latest Ofsted report and a clear way to book a visit. Real photos of your rooms and garden help parents picture it. The Foundation Build covers all of this.
How should we explain funded hours on our website?
Say which funded hours you take and for which ages, and link parents to the government’s childcare support pages to check what they’re eligible for. In England, working parents get their own code and have to reconfirm their details every 3 months, so a reminder on your site can help. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland run their own schemes. M1 doesn’t give advice on the funding rules: your local authority is the place to check how they apply to you.

Is Ofsted the regulator everywhere in the UK?
No. Ofsted registers and inspects childcare in England. Scotland has the Care Inspectorate and Wales has Care Inspectorate Wales, and in Northern Ireland childminders and day care are registered with the local Health and Social Care Trust.
