Why is my law firm’s website not getting enquiries?

Often because it lumps every practice area onto one page, hides who does the work and gives no sense of cost, so someone searching “conveyancing solicitor” plus their town doesn’t find what they need. Give each practice area its own page with a named solicitor, your price and service information where it applies, and a short enquiry form.

Why it happens to solicitors.

People search the specialism
Nobody searches “law firm”. They search “divorce solicitor” or “probate solicitor” and a town. A firm with one services page has little to match those searches.
They want a named person
Clients are about to share something personal. A page that shows who handles their kind of matter, with a photo and experience, gives them a reason to call you.
Cost is the first worry
For SRA-regulated firms, the SRA Transparency Rules require price and service information for certain services, such as residential conveyancing and uncontested probate. Clear, easy-to-find pricing pages also help visitors decide to get in touch.
Forms that ask too little or too much
A form that asks for a full account of the matter puts people off. One that asks nothing means your team rings back without knowing if you can act, or whether there’s a conflict.

What to do, in order.

  1. Split out your practice areas

One page per area you want more of: conveyancing, wills and probate, family, employment. Say who it’s for and what happens first.

  2. Name the people

Who handles each area, with a photo, their role and experience. People choose a person as much as a firm.

  3. Make pricing easy to find

Link your price and service information from each relevant page, not just the footer. What it must contain is set by the SRA and decided by your firm.

  4. Ask the right first questions

Matter type, the other party’s name if there is one, and the best time to call. Enough for a conflict check, and no more.

  5. Get help where it fits

A Foundation Blueprint (£200) is a written diagnosis of why visitors aren’t getting in touch, and what to fix first. An Enquiry Page (£800) gives one practice area its own focused page. M1 builds what your firm specifies and gives no legal or regulatory advice.

Which services need prices on a law firm website?

For SRA-regulated firms, the SRA Transparency Rules list services such as residential conveyancing, uncontested probate, some employment tribunal claims, some immigration work, motoring offences dealt with at a single hearing, and debt recovery and licensing work for businesses. The list and the details are on the SRA website. M1 doesn’t give legal or regulatory advice, so your firm confirms what applies.

Should a solicitor’s website have a chat assistant?

It can answer general questions, like opening hours, which areas you cover and how to book a first call, and pass people to your team on WhatsApp. It shouldn’t discuss anyone’s matter. See the Website Chat Assistant.

Does M1 make sure the site is compliant?

No. Your firm stays responsible for its own regulatory compliance, including what the site says. M1 builds and lays out the pages, badges and information your firm specifies.
