Why is my plumbing business not showing on Google Maps?

Usually because your Google Business Profile is unverified, set up with the wrong main category, or missing the areas you cover, so Google can’t match you to a “plumber near me” search. Verify the profile, choose Plumber as the main category, hide your home address and list the towns you actually serve.

Why it happens to plumbers.

You work from home
Many sole-trader plumbers run the business from a home address. Google treats that as a service-area business: the address should be hidden and your service areas set instead. Getting this wrong can hold up verification.
Distance decides a lot
Google weighs how relevant you are, how far you are from the searcher and how well known you are. A plumber based a few miles out can be missing from searches in the town centre, however good the profile.
Rivals stuff their names
Names like “Emergency Plumber Chichester 24/7” break Google’s rules. They sometimes rank for a while, which tempts others to copy them, and they can get suspended.
Thin profiles look less useful
A profile with one photo, no services listed and no recent reviews gives Google little to match against searches like boiler repair or leak detection.

What to do, in order.

  1. Search like a customer

Open a private browser window, search “plumber” plus a town you cover, and look at the map results. Then search your exact business name to check the profile exists and is live.

  2. Verify and set it as service-area

Claim the profile, complete verification, hide your home address and add the towns or postcodes you cover.

  3. Fix the category and name

Plumber as the main category. Add others only for work you really do. Use your real business name, with no extra keywords.

  4. Fill in services and photos

List each service in plain words and add photos of real jobs and your van. Mention Gas Safe or WaterSafe only if you hold them.

  5. Get it done properly in one go

The Local Search Fix fills in your profile, fixes the key pages on your website, adds schema markup and sets up review requests to every customer.

Should I show my home address on Google?

No, not if customers don’t visit you. Google asks service-area businesses to hide the address and list the areas they serve instead. Your profile can still appear in the map results.

Can I add “emergency plumber” to my business name?

Only if it’s part of your real, registered trading name. Adding keywords to the name breaks Google’s guidelines and can get the profile suspended. Put emergency work in your services and description.

How long until I show up after fixing it?

There’s no fixed timeline. Some changes show within days, others take weeks, and verification can take longer. Nobody can promise a map position. What you can control is a complete, accurate profile and a steady run of real reviews.
