Why is my locksmith business not showing on Google Maps?

Often your Google Business Profile is unverified, suspended or set up against Google’s address rules, or the map is crowded with listings that break the rules. Verify the profile, hide your address if customers don’t visit you, use your real business name and set Locksmith as the main category.

Why it happens to locksmiths.

Locksmith searches attract fake listings
Fake locksmith listings have long been a problem on Google Maps, with networks of names and numbers that route to the same operator. They push genuine local firms down.
Verification can be harder
Google says the verification options depend on your business type and region, and can include a video. Genuine locksmiths often report being asked for this, and a profile can stall until it’s done.
Address rules are strict
Google’s guidelines say service-area businesses should hide their address, and remote mailboxes and virtual offices aren’t allowed unless staffed with signage during opening hours. Breaking them risks suspension.
Keyword names break the rules
Names like “24 Hour Emergency Locksmith Chichester” aren’t allowed unless that’s the real business name, and can get a profile suspended.

What to do, in order.

  1. Search like a customer

In a private browser window, search “locksmith” plus a town you cover and look at the map. Then search your exact business name to check your profile is live.

  2. Set it up as a service-area business

If customers don’t come to you, hide your address and list the towns you cover. Don’t use a virtual office or mailbox address.

  3. Be ready for verification

Have your van, tools, signage and business documents to hand in case Google asks for a video. Keep your name and number the same everywhere.

  4. Report listings that break the rules

You can suggest an edit or report a listing to Google if it’s clearly fake. It doesn’t always work quickly, but it’s the proper route.

  5. Get it done properly in one go

The Local Search Fix (£800) fills in your profile within Google’s rules, fixes the key pages on your website, adds schema markup and sets up review requests.

Can I use a virtual office address for my locksmith listing?

Google’s guidelines don’t allow virtual offices unless they’re staffed with signage during opening hours, or remote mailboxes. If you work from home, hide the address and set a service area instead.

Does Google’s Advanced Verification apply to UK locksmiths?

Google Ads Help says Advanced Verification for locksmith ads applies in the US and Canada. In the UK, the normal Business Profile verification applies, which may include a video. Check Google’s help pages for the current position.

How long until I show up after fixing it?

There’s no fixed timeline, and nobody can promise a map position. Verification can take a while. What you can control is a complete, accurate profile and a steady run of real reviews. The guide to not showing on Google covers the checks.
