How can a wedding business get more Google reviews?

Ask each couple at the moment they see the results, such as when the photo gallery is delivered or a few weeks after the day for venues and caterers, with a direct link to your Google review form. Every wedding is a one-off booking, so if that moment passes the couple rarely comes back to it.

Why it happens to wedding businesses.

One-off customers
A couple books you once. There’s no next visit, so the review has to be asked for while the day is still fresh.
Couples are busy afterwards
The honeymoon, thank-you cards and name changes come first. A request sent the day after the wedding gets lost.
Reviews spread across directories
Hitched, Bridebook and other directories each hold reviews. Couples searching for a venue or supplier nearby see your Google reviews first, on Google Maps.
Couples read for the details
How you handled the rain, the timings and the nerves. Reviews that describe the day tell the next couple more than a star rating.

What to do, in order.

  1. Save your review link

Copy the “ask for reviews” link from your Google Business Profile, ready to send.

  2. Pick the moment for your trade

Photographers and videographers: with the gallery or film. Venues and caterers: two or three weeks after the day. Florists and cake makers: when the couple sends their photos.

  3. Make it personal

Mention something from their day. Ask them to name the venue and the date, which helps couples searching for weddings there.

  4. Ask every couple, and never pay for it

No discount on prints or the album for a review, and no asking only the couples you expect to be happy. Google bans both, and UK consumer law bans fake and hidden incentivised reviews.

  5. Make it automatic

The Local Search Fix and Missed-Call Rescue both set up review requests to every couple, timed after the day.

Something else? Ask Sammy on WhatsApp.

Should I ask for reviews on Google or on wedding directories?

Both can help. Directory reviews help couples browsing there; Google reviews show on Maps and in search. Ask each couple for one review, and pick the place where most of your couples find you. The reviews guide covers the wording.

Can I offer a discount on the album for a review?

No. Google’s rules ban any reward for a review, and UK law bans hiding incentivised reviews. The CMA’s fake reviews guidance sets out the rules.

Can I copy my Hitched reviews onto Google?

No. Google reviews have to be left by the couple on Google. You can show directory reviews on your own website, within that site’s terms, and ask past couples to review you on Google as well.
