How do landscapers stop missing calls in the busy season?

Set up an automatic text for missed calls that thanks the caller, asks whether it’s a garden design or build job or regular maintenance, and says when you’ll ring back. In spring the phone rings while you’re behind a mower or a digger, and a quick reply keeps the bigger design jobs from going elsewhere.

Why it happens to landscapers.

The spring rush
When the weather turns, everyone wants their garden sorted at once. Calls pile up just as your own diary fills.
Noisy, muddy work
Mowers, cutters and diggers drown out the phone, and you can’t answer with gloves on and a machine running.
Two very different callers
A patio and planting redesign is worth far more than a one-off hedge cut. Without knowing which is which, you can’t call the right person back first.
Evening and weekend browsing
Homeowners look at their garden after work and at weekends and ring then, when you’re off site and may not want to answer.

What to do, in order.

  1. Split the enquiry in your reply

Ask one question: “Is it a design or build job, or regular maintenance?” and ask for the postcode and a photo of the garden.

  2. Say if maintenance is full

If your rounds are full, say so kindly in the text and offer a waiting list. It saves both of you a call.

  3. Put the answers online

A page for design and build with past projects, and a page for maintenance with areas and how rounds work. The text can link to them.

  4. Call back the big jobs first

Design and build enquiries first, then maintenance. Do it at a set time each day and say when in your reply.

  5. Automate it

Missed-Call Rescue sends your text, keeps each enquiry in a list and reminds you who is waiting.

What should my missed-call text say?

For example: “Thanks for calling, I’m on a job. Is it a garden design or build, or regular maintenance? Reply with your postcode and a photo and I’ll call you back this evening.”

Is this worth setting up if winter is quiet?

The reply runs all year, so it catches the winter enquiries for spring projects too. Many design jobs are planned in the colder months.
